Boutwell Studio has some amazing images and I love how colorful and fresh the imagery is. Chenin Boutwell produces a beautiful glow and I’m sure it’s due to her amazing use of light and the Totally Rad Action Mix they sell. Check out the blog for the next 9 days for they are posting their ‘recipe cards’ they handed out at PPA in Tampa with how she uses the actions on her images.  Her images always amaze me! I usually can’t wait until she posts on her blog so I can see what new things she is up to. Go check it out!

I can’t even begin to tell you how long I drooled over getting a Shootsac. I would check the site all the time and put my email on the mailing lists so when a sale would start I would know about it immediately. I even woke up in the middle of the night on the first premiere but then decided I needed to save my money for other things first…like a lens. ;) I told my mom over and over and over again about how much I wanted to get a Shootsac. So when Christmas started to come into view and a sale started, my Mom bought me a Shootsac for my Christmas gift. Ya! Now my parents live on a farm in Western Nebraska and their address is a Rural Route and the Shootsac website kept thinking it was a POB address and wouldn’t accept it. So my Mom called me up and told me to order it and have it shipped to me. Well you *know* there was no way that I was going to leave it in the box until Christmas. I had to get it out and make sure that it was ok and was going to work for me. Right??? Ha ha ha!!! I even bought a new cover before Christmas even got here.
I love this bag! I have used it on photo shoots and even just around the house when I’m trying to take pics of my daughter which require quick changes so I can capture things she’s doing or trying to keep her to stay put. I can’t be running to a bag to change lenses or get another card and expect her to stay put. It’s so comfortable to wear and my new cover makes it more my style, although I love the black cover it comes with just as much. I do wish that I could get my camera body in the bag but it carries everything else so who cares. ;) I !highly! suggest this bag to any photographer. I’ve seen that there are going to be some new covers out on Monday, check them out!
My lovely daughter modeled the bag for me this morning!
These are the things that I carry in my Shootsac on a regular basis.
My Sigma 28-200mm, Canon 550EX, Minolta Light Meter, Gary Fong Origami, Canon 50mm 1.8, $2 Tripod, Vertical Grip AA battery adapter, AA batteries, CF Cards, car keys, and I never go anywhere with out my Blackberry.
Here’s my girl helping Mama out this morning. ;)

barebaby

I love, love, love this website and the photographers! Brittney Woodall and Carrie Sandoval create the most beautiful black and white images of babies. The tones and lighting are just flawless and I love how they use different props with the babies. Each of these girls has their own websites as well and they collaborate under the barebaby name. I love their blog because they also post the specs on how they shot the image. Camera, shutter speed, aperature, and lighting. Gives you more insight into how they have created their image. They also have been working on a workbook that is currently in production. I can’t wait for this book to publish, I will be buying it asap! Enough of my blabbing, go check out all of these sites and see some beautiful imagery!

I came across this funny video yesterday on Angela Calderon’s Photography Blog. It’s of her little daughter that is at Disneyland and Mom just wants to take some video. She doesn’t want any part of having the camera pointing at her. She talks about how you would think that a photographers kids don’t mind having the pic taken but hers hate it. My girl is the opposite and I’m thankful for it. She’ll tell me to get my camera out and take a picture of her. Now, the moment usually doesn’t last for very long but she gets excited about it in the beginning. ;)

So today I decided to do a little mini session with her new winter coat. It’s been just freezing here in Colorado, barely getting above 20 degrees so she needed a big warm coat. When we bought this coat the first thing I thought about was how I could take her pic in the coat with her furry hood.

We were off to a good start!

Standing still and looking at the camera! ;)

Then the attention started to waiver and she wanted to be done.

I actually *love* this shot, she’s such a silly girl and this captured that.

This is me trying to get her to stay for just a little longer but she wasn’t having it!

Session Over!

On this last shot I had the camera sitting on the floor pointed in our direction and clicking away! I took many and got ONE shot! ;) I don’t get many pics of her and I, nobody else wants to take pics around here. So I have to be creative in getting these shots.

I used my Canon 550EX off camera with a wireless transmitter to trigger it. Set my camera to manual and dialed in my settings. I had her by our big sliding glass doors that face north so I only set the flash to 1/16th power just to add a little kick and fill. Last night I purchased David Jay’s Brilliant Presets (he had them marked down for Freedom Club Members!) and used the Backlit_2 on all of the above photos. I personally love the high contrast and how her skin looks like porcelain. I wanted the background to be blown out and to keep things very light, like snow. What do you think???

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I had the Gary Fong Origami diffuser on the 550EX. I really love this product for it works perfectly for giving a broader light output. So the flash is pointed toward the ceiling and the origami flap is vertical as well. This product is on sale right now for $29.95 and you can’t loose. I used the same set up on the Muna Family Session. Gave me more light but not as directional if I would of had the flash on my camera or without the diffuser. AND…it folds up so small and flat that it fights right into my Shootsac. YES! I love the Shootsac and will do a post on it soon! Stay Tuned!

Fred Egan

This guy totally rocks! He has such a unique style about his photography. I find it really hard to explain. It makes me think of something I’d see in a magazine or catalog. He creates these crisp, simple, and colorful images that you can’t help but look at over and over again. I love to follow his blog, Behind the Camera, to read about any tips he is passing along and what music he’s into right now. Go and check Fred’s site out, you too will be in awe of his beautiful imagery.

I love this program!

I bought it a few months ago and just love how simple it is to put together a fantastic slideshow to show online. It is so easy to customize the colors and the text with links to your website and proofing. Adding music is simple and doing custom timing works so smooth. I love it! For the engagement session that I did I asked them to give me a song that meant something to them and used that song for their slideshow. It totally personalized it for them and they loved it! It’s also great that the client can then email this show to whomever they want so they can view their portraits. It’s such a great piece of software!

Here are a couple slideshows that I’ve created using this software.
